How evil can one be? Husband committing a murder on his wife, father killing his daughter and animals experiencing humans hostile act is most disturbing yet realistic facts of the Dark Romanticism period. Romanticism is best described as a journey away from the corruption of civilization and the limits of rational thought and toward the integrity of nature and the freedom of imagination. Dark romanticism is a literary sub-genre of Romanticism. It talks about nature, human nature, and the past. Edgar Allan Poe is called one of the most â€Å"brilliant but erratic† authors. He used many gothic elements (i.e. grotesque characters, violence, and abnormal events) in his writings.†¦show more content†¦Geovanni thinks after noticing her closely â€Å" What is this being?...beautiful shall I call her ?...or inexpressibly terrible?†( 45). Giovanni sees how her inner beauty is not the same as her physical appearance. He is unable to accept the existence of evil in human nature since love made his understanding side blind. Doctor Rappaccini exposed Beatrice to a poison by hoping of making her durable. As a result, he made her hurt everything she touches, as well as Giovanni. Rappaccini s evil character turns out to be the reason for his own daughter’s death. Furthermore, Poe’s literature â€Å"The Black Cat† characterizes the narrator step by step. The main character had a cat and he hangs him to death. After killing the first cat, he is introduced to a new cat which looks the same as the last cat. The narrator is evil when he drinks but used to be a nice and animal loving. His horrific personality makes him lose his caring and extremely patient wife of his. After stopping him from the first cat, the narrator explains â€Å" Goaded, by the interference, into a rage more than demoniacal, I withdrew my arm from her grasp and buried the axe in her brain† (8). Home is supposed to be a place where people feel secure more than any other place. The narrator makes his home a living hell for his wife, cats, and himself.
